Sunbelt Rentals
Sunbelt Rentals Company Overview
Established in 1983 and headquartered in the Charlotte, North Carolina Metro area, Sunbelt Rentals has evolved from a small, local operation to a giant in the rental industry today.
Sunbelt Rentals has over 450 locations nationwide, including 100 Sunbelt Rentals at Lowe’s locations. Building on its solid foundation in the Southeast, the company has now established itself as the second largest rental company in the United States, with sister companies operating worldwide.
Sunbelt serves every niche of the construction and industrial marketplace - from commercial, residential, municipal, and service industries to specialized market sectors such as telecommunications, special events, and emergency preparedness, as well as weekend do-it-yourselfers. Sunbelt essentially offers the widest variety of specialized rental equipment in the country.
Instead of calling on every rental company in town, building contractors rely on Sunbelt Rentals for the full range of construction equipment needs, supported by the best service network available. Sunbelt truly sets the standard in the rental industry by delivering a level of customer service that exceeds each customer’s expectations.
The Sunbelt Rentals Challenge
Sunbelt Rentals had previously hired an outside consultant to integrate some .NET web services utilizing Java. A process was implemented to have RPG code write information to a data queue, Java code to read the queue, process the web service, and write information back to the data queue. Essentially what Sunbelt Rentals had was one large data communications hassle with no Java programmers in house to maintain the Java process.
The Solution and Result
Sunbelt Rentals contacted Profound Logic Software, an RPG-XML Suite reseller. After hearing of Sunbelt’s challenge, Profound Logic recommended and implemented RPG-XML Suite with ease within Sunbelt's environment. Today, Sunbelt Rentals has an efficient data communications process in place with ZERO dependency on Java, which they were unable to maintain effectively in-house.
Thanks to Profound Logic Software and RPG-XML Suite, Sunbelt Rentals can now officially “keep Java in their coffee cup”!

Horizon Hobby
Business profile
Founded in 1985, Horizon Hobby, Inc. is an international marketer and distributor of radio control (RC) cars, boats, planes, helicopters and other general hobby products. Horizon Hobby is one of the leading developers of radio control hobby products which include many of the biggest names in the industry such as Hangar 9 airplanes, HobbyZone entry level RC sports and Team Losi cars and trucks.
The challenge
Horizon Hobby needed to process credit card authorizations and settlements real time utilizing XML. Further, they needed to be able to compose, send and receive XML to Cybersource – their credit card processing broker.
The limitation
The time necessary to develop a solution internally was extensive. Additionally, programming resources were not readily available. The RPG language in itself didn’t address the complexity of composing, transmitting, and parsing of XML.
The solution
RPG-XML Suite bridged the gap and allowed for the XML communication and handling of information between Cybersource and Horizon Hobby.
The result
Transactions are seamlessly processed from internal green screen applications with the push of a button.
